Am I A Candidate?

Our Doctors

That’s a great question. Many patients are surprised to learn that they are a candidate for LASIK. Much of what made patients non-candidates in the past has been overcome with advanced technology. We are able to treat nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. To determine whether or not you are a candidate requires a brief consultation in our office. During this consultation, a technician will read your prescription, perform special tests on your eyes, and review with a surgeon to determine if LASIK is right for you.

Does LASIK Hurt?

This is by far one of the most common questions we hear from patients before their procedure. The most common answer we hear afterward is how quick and easy their procedure was. During the procedure, we use special numbing drops that allow the entire procedure to be performed with little or no discomfort. Some patients experience the feeling of scratchiness a few hours following the procedure, while other report no discomfort at all. We encourage all patients to go home after the procedure, relax or take a nap for the first few hours. By the next morning, most patients dramatically improved vision and little to no discomfort.

How Long Does The Procedure Take?

Most patients are surprised by how quickly their procedure is performed. The actual laser portion of your procedure – when the cornea is being gently reshaped – usually takes 10 seconds or less. The entire process in the laser suite normally takes less than 20 minutes for both eyes to be treated.

What If I Blink During The Procedure?

It is common for patients to ask about eye movement or blinking during the process. Our Wavelight laser offers what we feel is unmatched eye tracking technology designed to deliver laser beams precisely to the targeted area. The laser constantly and minutely adjusts to eye movement every four to six milliseconds and it automatically realigned. If your eye moves too quickly or out of range, the laser pauses automatically, waiting for your eye to move back into proper alignment.

When Can I Return To Work?

Our Doctors

Because of the speed of our laser and the more gentle nature of our all-laser method of LASIK, the vast majority of our patients are able to return to work the next day. In fact, most patients drive themselves to our office for their one-day post-op visit. We have designed our entire LASIK process to ensure minimal time away from your work, hobbies or normal daily activities. Our staff will go over specific post-operative restrictions, which vary for men and women based on their professions and outdoors activities.

Will I Need To Wear Glasses After LASIK?

Our goal with LASIK at The Eye Guys is to enable our LASIK patients to enjoy life with little or no dependence on corrective eyewear. The vast majority of our patients do not require prescription glasses after LASIK for work or for play. However, men and women in their 40s who do not elect mono-vision will require reading glasses at some point for near vision due to the natural aging of the lens inside the eye. This condition is known as presbyopia and occurs to everyone as we get older.

LASIK (Day 1)

Day 1

It is not uncommon to experience improved vision on the same day as your procedure. This varies by patient. You will be given eye drops to use and be issued protective eyewear to wear at night during the first few days following your procedure. You will require a friend or family member on the day of surgery to drive you home for a day of rest and relaxation.

After LASIK (Day 2)

Day 2

The vast majority of our patients enjoy dramatically improved vision on day two. In fact, most of our patients are able to drive themselves to their one-day post-op visit and then on to work afterward. You will be seen by one of our doctors to ensure your eye is healing properly and to perform initial eye measurements. You will continue to notice improvements in your vision in the weeks following your procedure.

After LASIK (Day 3)

Day 3

On day three, you should be seeing great without the need for glasses or contact lenses. You may notice your eyes getting a little tired in the afternoons following your procedure, but this is normal. You may also be using eye drops if your eyes become dry after LASIK. But overall, you are on your way to SEEING better and LIVING better.

Exploring LASIK Alternatives

EVO – For Patients Told They Are NOT LASIK Candidates

The leading refractive surgeons at The Eye Guys are proud to announce an exciting vision correction alternative for patients who have been told they are NOT a candidate for LASIK or are extremely NEARsighted.

This revolutionary new lens-based procedure is so proven that actor and entertainer, Joe Jonas (Jonas Brothers), chose the EVO Implantable Collamer Lens (ICL) procedure to replace his prescription glasses & contacts.

The EVO ICL is an artificial lens that is implanted inside the eye that can removed in the future if necessary. It corrects a wide range of nearsightedness and Astigmatism and is quickly becoming the procedure of choice for certain patients who are frustrated with high amounts of nearsightedness and/or astigmatism and may be experiencing dry eye syndrome.

The ideal candidate for the EVO ICL is between the ages of 21-45, is moderately to severely nearsighted (a prescription of -3D to -20D), has not had a change in prescription of more than .5K in the past year and is looking for a procedure that does not cause Dry Eyes Syndrome.

The only way to truly determine if you are an ideal EVO candidate at The Eye Guys is to schedule an appointment with one of our eye doctors. He or she will perform a series of standard tests to measure your eye’s unique characteristics for the procedure. Once our team has determined that EVO ICL is a good option for you, we will educate you about the procedure and what to expect both during and after the procedure.

If it is determined you are an ideal candidate and you wish to go forward with your EVO procedure, you will be scheduled for the procedure in our Ambulatory Surgery Center. When you arrive for your procedure, we will administer eye drops to dilate your pupils as well as anesthetize your eyes. You should feel little or no discomfort during your brief EVO procedure.

During your EVO procedure, our surgeon will create one small opening at the base of your cornea to insert the EVO ICL lens. The procedure is painless because of the numbing medication. The EVO ICL lens then can be folded and inserted through the small incision made by our surgeon. Once the lens is inserted, we will make any necessary adjustments to ensure proper positioning in the eye.

Immediately following your brief procedure, many patients will have improved vision nearly immediately. Our medical team will prescribe more eye drops intended to aid in the healing process following the procedure. On the day of your procedure, you will need someone to drive you home.

EVO also has a unique barrier of UV protection for active people who love the outdoors.
